NE 90th Street Bridge &
River Walk Habit Restoration
Redmond, Washington
Seeking to create a memorable portal to the city, the City of Redmond has created a special architecturally significant bridge over the Sammamish River providing linkage for a rapidly growing city. The existing condition of the river provided little in habitat or visual quality with its straight lines, slow moving shallow water, and blackberry choked banks. Aesthetic and habitat improvements included meandering the river, adding a gravel bar for public access, varying water depths and speeds to improve the hydraulic habitat conditions of the water, and extensive native plantings. A pedestrian gathering terrace was designed at the intersection of the river trail system and linkages to the road above. Fish and wildlife artwork was integrated in a variety of ways to reinforce the importance of this valuable habitat resource.
Dar Webb was lead designer and project manager for this project while an associate with Brumbaugh & Associates-Landscape Architecture.
