Situated high on a ridge on the site of an abandoned apple orchard, the house was sited to maximize views and sun exposure. Taking cues from the architecture and a very formal program, this traditional garden has classic detailing and materials. The use of bluestone paving, precast wall caps and stair treads, cut-stone wall cladding, and native stone retaining walls all reinforce the traditional vocabulary. A broad terrace wraps the rear of the house and views the swimming pool, overlook, and terraced gardens. Trellis structures help connect the house and garden and provide shade in the summer. The pool pavilion was designed and located to shield the site from prevailing winds and create privacy for the pool area. |
